Description
A part of my investigation of “how can art reflect contemporary life”, this artwork reflects on hierarchy from the perspective of those at the bottom of society. The composition is constructed so that the bottom is closest and largest to the viewer and the top is furthest. Despite the increased size, my use of contrasting cool and warm colors draws emphasis to the tallest pillar neglecting the harsh reality at the bottom–dark and filled with thorns. So far throughout this series I have accumulated a personal iconography of swirls, thorns, hollow spheres, and biomorphic designs. As I continue, I intend to further implement these symbols towards creating a personal symbolic language to my work which can be decoded.
