Description
My trip to New York City during my sophomore year of high school was overshadowed by concerns over the rapid advancement and adoption of AI-generated art. I found myself withdrawing from my own creative work, questioning the role and value of artists in a world where technology seemed to encroach on the very essence of human expression.
During my visit to the Met Museum, as I wandered through halls filled with astounding beauty, I was struck by a profound sense of awe. In that moment, I felt a humbled reverence for humanity’s enduring drive to create. I realized that it wasn’t in materials or even the mastery that gave these works value to me, but rather the fact that, amidst the chaotic affairs of humanity, art continues to emerge as a unique and inexplicable presence. This realization rekindled my belief that, while the definition of art remains open to interpretation, the act of creating is distinctly human.
This experience ignited within me an uncontrollable hunger to produce art of my own. Upon returning home, I created this piece, inspired by Edvard Munch’s existential expression in The Scream.
