Description
Caught between dimensions, this artwork demonstrates my transition from 2D to an exploration of 3D. Much of my artistic practice has been dominated by a canvas and paint—essentially, a box that constrained my expression. As time passed, my ideas gradually presented themselves three-dimensionally, and the work, originally an extension of a 'Portrait of a Girl,' began to feel inauthentic and sterile.
While the tears in the canvas may be perceived as bursts of emotional expression, I intend for the rips to serve as a strategic exploration of the form that a canvas occupies; this piece reflects not only my evolving artistic practice but also the beginnings of an explicit exploration of duality—the multiplicity of dimensions the artwork encapsulates.
